This performance was produced after a 1-month residency in Tokyo hosted by WPU Shinjuku.

Cette performance-vidéo fonctionne comme un jeu de mots. “Coucou” y est à la fois un geste de présentation par une déambulation dans la ville, et le nom de l'oiseau que je tiens dans mes mains. Une manière d'interagir avec les sons d'oiseaux numériques utilisés aux intersections de Tokyo. Ceux-ci indiquent non seulement le feu vert pour les piétons, mais aussi les points cardinaux, en utilisant le cri du coucou pour l’axe est-ouest.  C’est cette même direction qui est empruntée par les oiseaux pour migrer du Japon vers l'Asie du Sud-Est et la côte est de l'Afrique. J'ai parcouru Shinjuku, guidée par ces sons croisés, offrant une rencontre entre le chant numérique du coucou et un oiseau en papier.

The video performance is a play on words - as “coucou” is an informal “hello” in French but also the name of the bird (cuckoo) I am holding. A way to introduce myself to the city, but also to interact with the digital bird sounds used at intersections. Which not only indicate the green light for people to cross - but also the cardinal directions, using the cuckoo sound for east/west crossings. The same direction the actual bird uses to migrate from Japan to south east Asia and the African eastern coast - back and forth. Taking parts of the same route, I walked around Shinjuku, led by those crossing sounds - offering an encounter between of a digital cuckoo song and a paper bird.
